West Side Soccer League has been affiliated with AYSO since its inception in 1987 as Region 611. WSSL is part of Section 3, Area A of AYSO's national structure. WSSL derives its core philosophy and centers all of its soccer programs around AYSO's vision, mission and six philosophies.
AYSO's Vision is to provide world class youth soccer programs that enrich children's lives.
AYSO's Mission is to develop and deliver quality youth soccer programs which promote a fun, family environment based on AYSO's Six Philosophies:
Everyone Plays
Players learn by playing. Players on our tournament teams and WYSL U8-U12 travel teams who demonstrate a commitment to the team and to training will play 50% or more in each game. Playing time may be limited by attendance, attitude or other factors. It may be generally limited on the older WYSL travel teams and higher level Premier travel teams.
Balanced Teams
Each year we form new teams as evenly balanced as possible because, providing a stronger learning experience for teams as they play teams comprised of similar ability. It also allows for each player to experience playing with a wide variety of teammates of different skill levels.
Open Registration
If you want to play soccer, WSSL welcomes you and gives all youth the opportunity to register and play. Everyone can tryout for a travel or tournament team. However, players will be assessed and selected based upon their ability to play at a higher level. Need-based scholarships are available to players selected for travel and tournament teams.
Positive Coaching
A coach can be one of the most influential people in a player’s life, so we require they create a positive experience for every player. Additionally, encouraging player’s effort leads to greater enjoyment, improved skills and stronger motivation in players.
Good Sportsmanship
We strive to create a positive environment based on mutual respect rather than a win-at-all-costs attitude, and our programs are designed to instill good sportsmanship in every facet of AYSO.
Player Development
All players should be able to develop their soccer skills and knowledge to the best of their abilities, both individually and as members of a team, to maximize their enjoyment of the game.
AYSO has a tremendous archive of resources that are great for parents, coaches, referees, administrative volunteers and players. More information about AYSO can be found at ayso.org.
